Recently, Quebec has seen a flurry of changes in its immigration system. There has been a fair share of controversies regarding the changes that were announced by the province. Now, Quebec has begun to introduce positive reforms that are not likely to inspire a backlash. The province will be increasing all the financial support requirements along with the application fees for the year 2020.
These changes can be traced back to Quebec's average Consumer Price Index. The required settlement funds are set to rise on 1st January. The application processing fees are also supposed to go up on the very same day.
For sponsors, the financial capacity amounts in Quebec will also see a rise since the beginning of 2020. There was a 1.72 percent change in consumer prices in the province this year. This number does not include alcohol, cannabis or tobacco.
The new rate will most likely affect the following scales:
Financial capacity of residents in Quebec who want to undertake family reunification under the group sponsorship program
Financial requirements for international students who want to study in Quebec and their family members who wish to accompany them
Financial resources required to evaluate the financial self-sufficiency of candidates under the
Quebec Skilled Worker Program, entrepreneurs in Streams One and Two, self-employed workers, and even the Quebec Experience Program.
Individuals wanting to sponsor a family member for their permanent residency in Quebec will have to show proof that they have reached a specified gross income annually.
The income requirements will vary on the basis of the number of family members within the sponsor’s household, and also the number of candidates who have to be sponsored. Sponsors will require income to fulfill the needs of the people they want to bring to Quebec.
